Recommended pubs close by include The George and Dragon and The Cock O’ Budworth, both at Great Budworth, the Antrobus Arms at Antrobus and The Spinner & Bergamot at Comberbach. All are only 3-4 miles from Arley.

Just 5 miles from Arley is the lively village of Stockton Heath with several places to eat to choose from. For fine dining there’s The Terrace Bistro or for Greek and Mediterranean inspired food try Ego Mediterranean Restaurant & Bar.

Knutsford is a lovely historic town 8 miles from Arley. If you are staying over the May Day Bank Holiday the Knutsford May Day parade held on the first Monday in May is definitely a local highlight.

The area is great for walking with numerous parks and woodlands to explore. Marbury Park, 5 miles from Arley, is a country park with an arboretum. Covering nearly 200 acres, Dunham Massey deer park features a magnificent collection of ancient trees and woodland occupied by a herd of fallow deer. For a shorter lakeside stroll head to Shakerley Mere, home to many species of wildlife and popular with anglers and bird watchers alike. A little further afield is Tatton Park, a sizeable 2000 acre estate with plenty of open parkland, red deer, stunning landscaped gardens and little farm perfect for younger visitors.

Many of Cheshire’s finest historic homes are easily reached. Lyme Park is an attractive National Trust house surrounded by gardens, moorland and a deer park. Crowning a rocky crag and boasting spectacular views, Beeston Castle is one of the most dramatically sited medieval castles in England.

If you fancy playing a round or two of golf whilst staying at Arley, several local clubs welcome non-members including High Legh, Antrobus and Hartford.

Racing enthusiasts will be spoilt for choice with Haydock, Aintree and Chester racecourses all easily accessible from Arley

Feeling adventurous? There’s Go Ape at Delamere Forest with treetop adventure and all-terrain forest segway experience, or get behind the wheel for an off road Land Rover Experience at Peckforton Castle.

The walled cathedral city of Chester is steeped in history dating back to Roman times. It’s definitely worth the easy 30 minute drive. If visiting with children, make sure to visit Chester Zoo. It has over 35,000 animals in its zoological gardens.
