Autumn-Winter Botanical Watercolours

Sue McHugh, is a Fellow of the Society of Botanical Artists and is the current Artist in Residence at Knowsley Hall is hosting a series of 2 hour, relaxed botanical watercolour art classes, aimed at beginners in the Coach House at Arley each month throughout the year.
Each workshop last 2 hours.
£50pp and includes a hot drink & cake as well as access to the gardens (normally £12) and parking (normally £3).
10 places per session so booking is essential.
The workshop requires no experience and the easy-to-follow process will walk you through the key steps to producing realistic botanical watercolours with real impact!
All professional art materials will be provided, just turn up!
What you will learn:
- Key elements of botanical illustration
- The art materials Sue uses
- Selecting your botanical specimen to paint
- Composition and common elements of botanical layouts
- Sue's easy-to-follow step-by-step watercolour technique
The Autumn-Winter classes will focus on learning her easy-to-follow watercolour process with a little bit of a twist - producing a seasonal keepsake to take away.
Sue's aim is to share her love for botanical watercolours and to demystify the key stages to creating successful paintings.
Calligraphy Workshop
Wednesday 5th November

The Joys of Calligraphy in 2025 with Mellor & Rose. This half day dip pen & ink beginners modern calligraphy workshop includes individual calligraphy box with starter kit and Mellor & Rose Calligraphy workbook in their signature script style and Luxe stationery items including pre-templated greetings card and gift tags.
All workshops are suitable for complete beginners and intermediates (if you've picked up a dip pen before!) as you work through the core fundamentals of modern calligraphy; how to hold the pen, pressure strokes, letterforms, linking the letters along with elements of Design and Layouts- exciting!
The course runs from 10:30am - 1:30pm with access to the gardens and free parking is included.
Workshops cost £85.00 and include 2 Tutors (Lucy Mellor & Polly Mellor) • Calligraphy Box is yours to keep and continue your Calligraphy journey • Refreshments are provided along with materials so no need to bring anything, just enthusiasm to get creative with a dip pen!
Willow Weaving Workshop
Thursday 6th November 2025 (FULLY BOOKED)
10:00 - 16:00
Make what I call a small stag, but is actually quite large! This is quite a full on day of hard work and very rewarding! All materials will be provided. Please bring a pair of secateurs and an apron to protect your clothes.
Tea, coffee and cake will be provided. Please bring your own lunch.

Hall Open
Saturday 8th, Sunday 9th & Monday 10th November 2025
Entry to the Hall will be from 10am – 3.30pm (last entry 3.00pm). Adult £8.00, Child (4-16) £4.00, Family (2 adults & up to 3 children) £22.00. No need to book, but pre-booked tickets at a discounted rate are available using the Buy Tickets link above.
PLEASE NOTE: Hall entry is only available as an upgrade after paid garden entry.
Willow Weaving Workshop

Make a beautiful frame basket. The size, shape and choice of colour is up to you.
You will be led step by step through the process with verbal and written instructions as well as visual demonstrations from me.
All materials will be provided, you just need to bring an apron and some secateurs.

The Artisan Show Shopping Spectacular

We are excited to announce the return of the shopping spectacular event at Arley, this year organised by The Artisan Show.
Carefully selected artists and makers will be exhibiting throughout the hall and the grounds to celebrate the very best in British Handmade.
There will be an array of different makers from all over the country, offering the perfect opportunity to find that unique gift for Christmas and meet the artisans in person. Come and enjoy a pianist in the hall and a traditional barrel organ in the grounds, and sample some artisan food and drinks.
